A society in which consumption has to be artificially stimulated in order to keep production going is a society founded upon trash and waste, and such a society is a house built on sand.
- Dorothy Sayers

"This cursed and abominable phrase - "my own"- comes from the devil. We cannot say "my own light", "my own sun", or "my own water." - St. John Chrysostom
"The Christian recognizes in the destructive horrors which menace the world the face of generations of omission on the part of Christians." - Jacques Maritain
"Wealth, fame and the other things of this life all lack substance...they possess a specious semblance to reality. We ourselves give them substance when in our thoughts we shape fantasies about things that serve no real purpose...we exceed the basic needs of the body to the point of impossible luxury; we lavish innumerable sauces on our food; to show off, we dress up in expensive and luxurious clothing; and when criticized for this useless extravagance we answer that we are only doing what is fitting and proper. What else are we seeking to do in all this but give substance to what in itself lacks reality? - St. Neilos the Ascetic
I am a missionary priest of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROCOR) in Bryan, TX. My intellectual interests include Patristic Theology, Ecology, Social-Justice, Civil Liberties, and the unintended consequences of modern technology. I work as an organic gardener for a small community supported agriculture program on a farm in the Brazos Valley, where my wife, the good Dr. Olympia Sibley, and I live in a small eco-cottage, now almost entirely off the grid. I am in the process of creating a permaculture garden to feed my own family and friends, and my wife and I raise ducks, rabbits, and chickens for meat and eggs. We also feed a small pack of useless but amiable dogs and a hard-working pride of rodent killing farm cats.
